CommuniTeach Privacy Policy

CommuniTeach is a collaborative online community that helps community members teach and learn from one another (referred to hereafter as “the Service”).  By using the CommuniTeach website (the “Website”), you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy (“Policy”) as well as our Terms of Use, whether or not you register as a member of the Website or use the Service.  Please read this Policy carefully and in full.

At CommuniTeach, we recognize that privacy is important. This Policy describes how we collect, store, use and protect your personal information. If you have any questions about this Policy, please feel free to contact us at privacymatters [AT] communiteach.com.

1. Our Privacy Principles

At CommuniTeach, we adhere to the following principles to protect your privacy:

  • We use the information you provide to administer your account with us and customize our Service for you and to send you service and promotional communications through email and notices on our Website.
  • We will not rent or sell your personal identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We do not spam or support the activities of spammers. Any personally identifiable information that you provide to us will be secured in such manner as we deemed reasonably appropriate. If you suspect a spammer is operating on CommuniTeach, we encourage you to bring it to our attention by sending us an email at privacymatters [AT] communiteach.com.
  • If we materially change this Policy or how we use your personally identifiable information, we will post notice of such materially significant changes to this Policy on our Website. If you continue to use the Website or our Service after notice of changes has been sent to you or published on our Website, we will assume that you have agreed with our changes.

At CommuniTeach, we may collect the following types of information:

Once you register on our Website, you may provide additional information in the Profile section of our Website. Providing additional information beyond what is required at registration to become a member of the CommuniTeach community is entirely optional, but enables you to better identify yourself and find new learning and/or teaching opportunities in our Service. . You acknowledge that particular information you provide to us may reveal, or allow others to identify, your ethnicity, nationality, religion or other parts of your private life. The supplying of all such information by you to CommuniTeach, including all information deemed “sensitive” by applicable law, is entirely voluntary on your part. If you update any of your information, we may keep a copy of the information which you originally provided to us in our archives for uses permitted under this Policy.
  • Cookies – When you visit our Website, we send one or more cookies – a small file containing a string of characters – to your computer or other device that uniquely identifies your browser. We use cookies to recognize you, customize your experience and serve advertisements.  To the extent we allow any third party advertising on our Website, we may allow such third party advertisers who are presenting advertisements on some of our Website pages to set and access their cookies on your computer. Doing this permits the third party advertisers to recognize your computer each time they send you an advertisement and to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. We do not have access to or control of the cookies that may be placed by the third party advertisers. This privacy statement covers the use of cookies by CommuniTeach and does not cover the use of cookies by any of its advertisers.

  • Links – Our Website may contain links to other websites. CommuniTeach is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other websites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. Our Policy only governs information collected on our Website.
  • Blogs, Chatrooms, Message Boards and Public Forums - Whenever you voluntarily post public information to our Blogs, Chatrooms, Message Boards or any other Public Forums, that information can be accessed by the public and can in turn be used by those people to send you unsolicited communications. Furthermore, if you select to participate in, or host, a public LearnIt event and you post any information on our Website pertaining to such public LearnIt event (including without limitation, the location and venue of the public LearnIt event, as well as your attendance), such information can be accessed by all members of the CommuniTeach community.

Throughout this Policy, we use the term "personal information" to describe information that can be associated with a specific person and can be used to identify that person. We do not consider personal information to include information that does not identify a specific user.

We may use the collected personal information for internal review, to improve the content of our Website and Service, to customize the content and/or layout of our Website pages for each individual user, and to notify users about updates to our Website. Other non-personal information that we collect will be exclusively owned by CommuniTeach and can be utilized by us in such manner as we, in our sole discretion, deem appropriate.

3. Sharing of Personal Information

By its very nature and purpose, our Website is a medium by which members of our Service seek to make contact with each other for teaching and/or learning purposes (including requests for LearnIts). Some of the information you enter onto our Website (including, without limitation, your profile information and any information you may post on our Website about a public LearnIt event, including your attendance) will be viewable by any other member of our Website and by members of our Website who may export and save this data. All such sharing of information is done at your own risk. Please keep in mind that if you disclose personal information in your profile or when posting comments, messages, photos, or other items on our Website, this information may become publicly available.

Except for the following, we do not intentionally transfer the collected information to third parties without your consent. However, we reserve the right to share, disclose or transfer such information without your consent to prevent an emergency, to protect or enforce our rights (including, without limitation, to enforce our Terms of Use), to protect or enforce the rights of a third party, to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of CommuniTeach, its users or the general public, or in response to a court order, subpoena, governmental investigation request or as otherwise required or permitted by law. In addition, we may provide the collected information to third party providers providing services to us (each a “Third Party Provider”) who help us maintain our Website or Service and/or deliver information and services to you and other users of our Service (which may include, without limitation, third-party web designers or our web-hosting outsourcers). Typically, we only provide such Third Party Providers with information in the form of statistical information which has been aggregated with other user information and does not personally identify you as an individual. However, if we deem it necessary to provide your personal information to a Third Party Provider to fulfill certain requests or in furtherance of generally accepted business related purposes, we will take reasonable protection measures limiting the use of that information to the CommuniTeach specified purposes.

If CommuniTeach becomes involved in a merger, acquisition, or any form of sale of some or all of its assets, we will ensure the confidentiality of any personally identifiable information involved in such transactions and provide notice before personally identifiable information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Minors are not eligible to use our Service and we ask that anyone under the age of 18 do not submit any personal information (including, without limitation, information like your name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address) to us or use the Service.

Furthermore, in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, we do not knowingly collect any information from persons under the age of 13. If we learn that a posting on our Website is by a person under the age of 13, we will remove that post. We have implemented security measures (which may include safeguards such as firewalls and data encryption) to help protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the collected personal information under our control. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Therefore, even as we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us through or in connection with our Website.

If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, you must immediately notify us of the problem by contacting us at: privacymatters [AT] communiteach.com.
